The deep-sea archaeon Pyrococcus abyssi thrives in undersea hot vents where temperatures reach 98^oC and the pressure is around 200 atm. Laura Spagnolo has received a grant from the Royal Society to study how this organism replicates DNA under such extreme environmental conditions. The work will be carried on in collaboration with the Centre for Science at Extreme Conditions at Edinburgh University.
