Red deer study featured on BBC Autumnwatch8th October 2009The BBC series Autumnwatch is currently featuring coverage of the annual rut from a red deer population that is part of a long-term study managed by researchers at the University of Edinburgh's Institute of Evolutionary Biology.
The long-term study of red deer on the Isle of Rum - which is run jointly by researchers at the Universities of Edinburgh and Cambridge - has been monitoring the lives of individually recognisable red deer from birth to death for nearly four decades. The incredibly detailed information and understanding of these animals provided by the researchers has allowed the BBC unrivalled access to and understanding of these animals - resulting in some incredible footage of one of the major wildlife events of the autumn in Britain.
