Course overview
The QGGA course is designed to equip students to meet the growing requirement by industry and academia for individuals with expertise in quantitative genetics and analysis of genomics data.
Semester 1 Evolutionary, population and quantitative genetics. Statistical methodology.
Semester 2 Quantitative trait analysis and genomics. Specialist option. Mini research project.
Dissertation MSc research project and dissertation.
During the course, students will acquire a range of valuable intellectual, practical and transferable skills. A variety of teaching methods are used including lectures, tutorials, computer-based practicals and discussions of recent scientific papers. There is also a substantial research component, with a mini-project undertaken in Semester 2 and a full time 3-month research project carried out over the summer.
Students are expected to attend relevant graduate-level seminars and journal clubs. In addition, students can build on their general IT and computing skills by accessing the excellent facilities provided by the University of Edinburgh Information Services.
