The ICB is situated in the Swann-Darwin-Rutherford complex at King’s Buildings, which provides a state-of-the-art environment for cell and molecular biology. In particular, the Institute includes the Wellcome Centre for Cell Biology within which is situated the Centre Optical Instrumentation Laboratory (COIL). Developments of image analysis at the boundaries of biology and physics are provided through the Collaborative Optical Spectroscopy, Micromanipulation & Imaging Centre (COSMIC). The Swann-Darwin-Rutherford complex provides an excellent working environment including seminar rooms and a large cafeteria on the top floor with exceptional views of Edinburgh including Arthur’s Seat, Salisbury Crags and the castle.
